OKTC Project Progress Report – May 2020

·

The OKTC testnet, launched on February 10, 2020, has now entered its fourth month of active development. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the community and developer teams, significant progress has been made across three core areas: public blockchain technology, product design, and ecosystem expansion. This report outlines key milestones achieved in May 2020, including technical upgrades, product development, and ecosystem partnerships.

✅ Testnet Upgraded to Version 0.10

The stable version of the OKTC testnet has successfully been upgraded to v0.10, marking a major milestone in network functionality and reliability.

🔧 Development Kit Releases

To support broader integration and third-party development, several software development kits (SDKs) have been released or updated:

These SDKs are essential tools for developers building wallets, exchanges, analytics platforms, or DeFi applications on the OKTC network.

🚀 New Features in v0.10

Multi-Vote for Super Nodes

OKTC now supports one validator, multiple votes, allowing node operators to delegate stakes across multiple candidates. This enhances decentralization and encourages broader participation in network governance.

OpenDEX: Democratizing Decentralized Exchanges

A major innovation introduced in this release is OpenDEX, a feature that allows anyone to launch their own decentralized exchange using OKTC’s underlying protocol. This lowers entry barriers for developers and entrepreneurs looking to create niche trading platforms without rebuilding core infrastructure.

🛠️ Stability & Performance Testing

The OKTC testnet continues to demonstrate robust performance:

During routine auditing, a minor issue was identified in the Tendermint consensus layer — a test-only empty struct was inadvertently included in production code. The team promptly reported this to the upstream Tendermint repository via GitHub Issue #4766, showcasing OKTC’s commitment to open-source collaboration and code integrity.

💻 OpenDEX Desktop Application Development

Progress on the OpenDEX desktop client stands at 50% completion, with the following achievements:

Additionally, research into optimal desktop development frameworks is underway to ensure cross-platform compatibility and long-term maintainability.

⚖️ Margin Trading (Currency-to-Currency Leverage)

Development of the margin trading system is 60% complete, with a demo version expected by early June 2020.

Key functionalities implemented:

This modular approach ensures flexibility for DEX operators while maintaining system-wide risk controls.

🧩 Wasm Smart Contract Development

Smart contract support via WebAssembly (Wasm) remains a high-priority initiative:

Wasm enables high-performance, language-agnostic smart contracts, positioning OKTC as a versatile platform for next-gen DeFi and dApp development.

🔗 Cross-Chain Interoperability (Homogeneous)

OKTC achieved full participation in the goz inter-blockchain communication challenge (GoZ) hosted by Cosmos:

In addition:

This progress underscores OKTC’s commitment to interoperability within the broader blockchain ecosystem.

🌱 Ecosystem Growth & Partnerships

Over 30 projects and institutions from five key sectors — public chains, browsers, wallets, mining pools, and security firms — have joined the OKTC ecosystem.

Notable Collaborations:

FIBOS

Proposed collaboration on heterogeneous cross-chain integration, enabling Ethereum-based assets to flow across multiple chains. Also participating in OKTC super node testing and elections.

Kava

Aiming to co-develop a cross-chain DeFi ecosystem and provide oracle and data services tailored for OKTC-based financial applications.

Bytom

Suggested mutual sidechain recognition, shared governance of federated nodes, and joint development of a unified cross-chain standard to bridge both ecosystems.

CertiK

Plans to leverage its CVM (CertiK Virtual Machine) and DeepSEA language to enhance smart contract security, while building tools like an enhanced block explorer and secure wallet (DeepWallet) for OKTC.

IRISnet

Partnered with OKTC in the GoZ challenge and plans to offer technical support in DeFi, wallet integration, and browser tooling.

Other Contributors

NULS, Vite, YeeCo, and TruChain are actively contributing to testnet development and protocol validation.

🔝 Super Node Program Update

The OKTC testnet invites individuals and organizations to run super nodes, with guaranteed eligibility for mainnet participation upon successful contribution during the test phase.

A full list of current super node operators is available on the block explorer.
